چکیده

Objective: To determine the frequency of raised serum GGT levels in patients with acute coronary syndrome and their in-hospital outcome. Study design: Case descriptive. Subjects and methods: 120 patients hospitalized in CCU of Services Hospital, Lahore with the diagnosis of Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) were included in study. All had baseline serum GGT level determined and outcome in terms of Major Adverse Cardiac Event (MACE), which included mortality from cardiac cause and recurrent MI, was studied within 4 days of hospital stay. Results: Among all participants 36 (30.0%) patients had raised GGT (>40U/L). In STEMI 35.4% NSTEMI 19.4% and unstable angina 20.0% had raised GGT levels. In CCU 23 (19.2%) patients suffered MACE (7 died). 60.9% of patients with MACE had raised GGT levels. Conclusion: Raised serum GGT activity was found to be a strong predictor of the development of MACE in the patients with ACS during CCU. And significant association of GGT with diabetes mellitus and obesity may account, at least in part, for the prognostic role of GGT.

Increased gamma-glutamyl transferase level is associated with absence of coronary collateral vessels in patients with acute coronary syndrome: an observational study.

OBJECTIVE Elevated serum gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) level has been proposed as a risk factor for coronary artery disease and is associated with poor clinical outcome in acute coronary syndrome (ACS). We aimed to evaluate the relationship between GGT level and presence of coronary collateral vessels (CCV) patients with ACS. METHODS We evaluated 178 patients with ACS in this cross-section...

Serum gamma-glutamyl transferase levels and in-hospital mortality in patients with acute heart failure.

BACKGROUND Acute heart failure (AHF) is a major cause of hospitalisation, morbidity and mortality worldwide. Gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) is an enzyme responsible for the extracellular catabolism of antioxidant glutathione and a potential risk indicator of cardiac mortality. Limited data exists on the prognostic value of circulating levels of GGT in patients hospitalized due to AHF. AIM T...

Comparison of gamma glutamyltransferase in normal and in type 2 diabetics.

OBJECTIVE Comparison of gamma glutamyltransferase in normal and type 2 diabetics. METHODS In a cross-sectional study, 100 apparently normal healthy subjects and, 47 type 2 diabetic subjects were selected from either sex with ages between 18-65 years. Subjects were measured for waist/hip ratio, BMI and serum levels of ALT, AST, Alk phosphatase and glutamyl transferase (GGT). The study excluded...

Plasma Gamma-Glutamyltransferase Is Strongly Determined by Acylation Stimulating Protein Levels Independent of Insulin Resistance in Patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome

BACKGROUND Steatosis is a manifestation of the metabolic syndrome often associated with release of liver enzymes and inflammatory adipocytokines linked to cardiovascular risk. Gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGT) is one sensitive liver marker recently identified as an independent cardiovascular risk factor. Mechanisms involved in enhanced hepatic lipogenesis causing steatosis are not yet identified ...

Gamma-Glutamyl Transferase Levels in Patients with Acute Ischemic Stroke

Objective. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) levels, cerebrovascular risk factors, and distribution of cerebral infarct areas in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS). Patients and Methods. Sixty patients with AIS and 44 controls who had not cerebrovascular disease were included in the study. The patients were divided into fou...
